Leadoff homer in eighth inning caps Ducks second consecutive comeback win

(Central Islip, N.Y., July 4, 2021) –
The Long Island Ducks defeated the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs 4-3 before a past-capacity crowd of 7,020 on Saturday night in the third game of a four-game series at Fairfield Properties Ballpark.

The Blue Crabs cracked the scoreboard first in the third inning on a two-out RBI single to left field by Josh McAdams off Ducks starter Brendan Feldmann. An RBI double to left by Will Decker in the fourth and a two-out RBI double to left-center by Michael Baca in the sixth extended the Southern Maryland advantage to three.

Long Island rallied to tie the game with a three-run sixth against Blue Crabs starter Mike Devine. Daniel Fields’ two-run double to center and Breland Almadova’s RBI infield single to short pulled the Ducks even. Hector Sanchez then put the Ducks in front with a leadoff solo home run to right field in the eighth.

Neither starter factored into the decision. Feldmann lasted five and two-thirds innings, allowing three runs on five hits and six walks while striking out five. Devine pitched six innings, giving up three runs on nine hits and a walk with three strikeouts. Brady Dragmire (2-0) earned the win, retiring all six batters he faced over two scoreless innings, striking out two. Endrys Briceno (1-1) suffered the loss, surrendering a run on two hits over two innings with two strikeouts. Michael Tonkin picked up his seventh save with a scoreless ninth despite allowing two hits.

Fields led the Flock with three hits, two RBIs and run scored. Sanchez and Deibinson Romero each added two hits, with Sanchez driving in a run and scoring twice.
