Win streak ends at four on Camden’s three-run fourth
 

(Central Islip, N.Y., Aug. 22, 2015) – The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Camden Riversharks 3-2 on Saturday night in the middle game of a three-game series at Bethpage Ballpark.

Sean Burroughs struck quickly for the Ducks in the bottom of the first with a two-out RBI single to left field off of Riversharks starter Jeff Singer. Camden jumped in front with three runs in the fourth against Ducks starter Darin Downs. A RBI double to left by Joel Guzman and a two-run homer to left by Daniel Rockett, both with two outs, did the damage.

Long Island closed to within 3-2 on a two-out RBI double to right by Burroughs in the sixth. However, they could not pull even.

Singer (1-0) earned the win, tossing six innings, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks while striking out six. Downs (2-4) took the loss, yielding three runs on six hits and one walk over seven innings with six strikeouts. Matt Gorgen collected his 26th save of the year with a scoreless ninth.

Burroughs led the Flock with two hits and two RBI.

The Ducks and Riversharks wrap up their three-game set on Sunday evening. Game time is slated for 5:05 p.m., with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 4:05 (3:50 for full season ticket holders). It’s the annual Mascot Day at the ballpark, presented by AdvantageCare Physicians! Fans will be able to say hello and pose for pictures with mascots from around Long Island. It’s also a Sunday Family Funday! Prior to the game, fans will be invited onto the field for an autograph session with the Ducks from 4:20 to 4:35. After the game, kids and kids at heart can take part in Kids Run the Bases, presented by Bethpage Federal Credit Union. Right-hander John Brownell toes the rubber for the Ducks against Riversharks southpaw and former Duck Bill Murphy.

Duck Tales: Dan Lyons picked up a double and two walks and has now reached base safely in 28 of his last 29 games dating back to July 23. In that span, he is batting .355 (39-for-110). Lyons has also hit safely in 15 straight games and has scored at least one run in 13 of his last 15 contests. In the 15 games, he is batting .393 (24-for-61) with two homers, 13 RBI and 20 runs scored. The hitting streak is one shy of the longest by a Duck this year, accomplished by Randy Ruiz from June 26 to July 16…Cody Puckett added another walk to extend his on-base streak to 19 consecutive games. During the streak, the infielder is batting .321 (25-for-78) with four doubles, one homer, 14 RBI and eight runs. The on-base streak is nine games shy of the longest by a Duck this year. That was accomplished by Lew Ford, who reached base in 28 straight games from June 7 through July 5 before being signed by Tijuana of the Mexican League…Sean Burroughs collected two hits for the sixth time and multiple hits for the seventh time in 13 games since joining the Ducks. The infielder also earned two RBI to account for his fourth multi-RBI game since coming to Long Island. The former big leaguer has hit safely in 10 of his last 11 games and has multiple hits in seven of his last eight contests. Since joining the Ducks on August 10, Burroughs is batting .382 (21-for-55) with two doubles, one homer, 12 RBI and seven runs…Darin Downs tossed his third quality start in his last four outings with seven innings of three-run ball. In his last four starts, the southpaw is 2-1 with a 3.46 ERA, allowing 10 earned runs in 26 innings of work. In that span, he has given up 20 hits and 14 walks while striking out 18 batters…Tonight’s crowd of 7,240 marked the Ducks’ 10th sold out crowd of the season. Long Island has now hosted 649 sellouts all-time, and Atlantic League record. Since the inaugural 2000 season, a total of 6,592,905 fans have come through the gates of Bethpage Ballpark, which is also a league record.
