2013 Atlantic League champion recognized for outstanding June

(Central Islip, N.Y., July 8, 2014) – The Atlantic League of Professional Baseball today announced that Long Island Ducks pitcher Shaun Garceau has been named the league’s Pitcher of the Month for June. He is the first Ducks pitcher to receive the monthly honor in 2014 and second Ducks player to earn a monthly honor this year (Lew Ford, Player of the Month, May).

“Shaun’s performance during the month of June was outstanding to watch,” said Ducks manager Kevin Baez. “He has been a steady part of our rotation since joining us in 2013 and is certainly deserving of this honor.”

During the month of June, Garceau led all Atlantic League pitchers in wins, earning victories in each of his five starts. In addition, the right-hander compiled a 2.60 ERA and 19 strikeouts in 34 and two-thirds innings pitched. He allowed just 10 runs on 29 hits and 13 walks in June while holding opponents to a miniscule .227 batting average.

Thanks to his strong month, Garceau is now tied for the Atlantic League lead in wins this season with eight as of July 8. He also ranks second in games started (14) and complete games (2) as well as third in strikeouts (68) and innings pitched (90.1). The Florida native was also selected this week to represent the Ducks at the Atlantic League All-Star Game. Garceau is currently in his second season with the Ducks and has combined to go 10-2 with a 3.89 ERA, three complete games and two shutouts in 18 regular season games (17 starts). He was 1-0 with a 3.95 ERA in the 2013 playoffs, helping the Ducks their second consecutive Atlantic League championship.

The Long Island Ducks are members of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball and play their home games at Bethpage Ballpark. For further information, call (631) 940-DUCK or visit www.liducks.com.
