(Central Islip, N.Y., Sept. 12, 2012) – The Long Island Ducks defeated the Lancaster Barnstormers 6-3 in 14 innings on Wednesday night in the middle game of a three-game series at Bethpage Ballpark.

GAME VIDEO: Ray Navarrete’s RBI single, Nelson scores the tying run and Sing’s waddle-off homer

Lancaster took a 2-0 lead in the first against Ducks starter Jino Gonzalez on a run-scoring error and a RBI groundout by Fehlandt Lentini. It would stay that way until the sixth when the Ducks scored a run off Barnstormers starter Alan Johnson on a RBI single by Ray Navarrete.

The Ducks tied the game at two in the seventh on a run-scoring passed ball, but the ‘Stormers re-took the lead in the eighth on a two-out single by Travis Denker. However, Long Island answered right back to tie it at three on a run-scoring throwing error by Gilberto Mejia.

It stayed tied until the bottom of the 14th inning when Brandon Sing launched a waddle-off three-run homer to left-center with two outs.

Neither starter factored into the decision. Gonzalez went four and two-thirds innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on three hits and four walks, while Johnson lasted six innings, yielding one runs on two hits with two strikeouts. John Brownell (2-0) got the win, pitching a scoreless top of the 14th inning, and Joe Bateman (0-2) suffered the loss, surrendering three runs in two innings of relief.

Bryant Nelson led the Ducks with three hits, while four others added two.

Duck Tales:
Brandon Sing’s walk-off homer was the Ducks’ ninth waddle-off win of the year. Their last one was a week ago Wednesday when Joash Brodin hit a walk-off three-run shot in game one of a doubleheader against Somerset. It was also Sing’s team-high 25th homer of the year and sixth three-RBI game…Ray Navarrete picked up two hits to extend his hitting streak to six games. In that span, he is hitting .400 (10-for-25) with two RBI and a run scored…Jared Lansford continued his dominance at home with one and one-third scoreless innings. In 24 home games, he now has a 2.01 ERA and 20 strikeouts in 31 and one-third innings. He has also now pitched eight and one-third innings against the Barnstormers this season without allowing an earned run…The Ducks bullpen did a stellar job of keeping the Flock in tonight’s game. In nine and one-third innings, they allowed just one run on four hits and two walks while striking out eight.
