GAME AUDIO: Highlights from the offensive showcase
Long Island opened up a 4-1 lead with two runs in the first inning and two in the second against Bluefish starter Blake Beaven. Anthony Vega’s solo homer on the game’s first pitch, a sacrifice fly from Cody Puckett and a two-run single by Fehlandt Lentini highlighted the scoring.
Bridgeport tied the game at four in the third with three two-out runs against Ducks starter Bobby Blevins. A two-run double by Welington Dotel, who later scored after a single from Jose Cuevas accounted for the scoring. The Ducks immediately jumped back in front 6-4 in the fourth on Mike Blanke’s leadoff solo homer and an RBI single by Puckett.
An RBI single by Luis Nunez in the bottom of the fourth closed the gap to one. The Bluefish then took the lead for good with a six-run sixth to go ahead 11-6. RBI singles by Nunez and Luis Hernandez, a two-run single by Endy Chavez and an RBI double from Cuevas did the damage. Three more runs in the eighth on Cuevas’ two-run double and Jose Gil’s RBI double rounded out the scoring.
Beaven did not factor into the decision but gave up six runs on eight hits and two walks with one strikeout in three and one-third innings. John Church (1-0) got the win in relief, pitching a scoreless inning and allowing one hit while striking out one. Blevins (1-7) suffered the loss, yielding nine runs on seven hits and two walks with two strikeouts.
Lentini led the Flock with five hits on the night, while Puckett, Blanke and Matt Wessinger each added two.
