The Skeeters jumped out to an early 2-0 lead with single runs in the first and second inning off Ducks starter Nick DeBarr. A RBI double by Josh Pressley and a run-scoring single by Adam Godwin did the damage. It stayed that way until the fifth when Koby Clemens hit a three-run home run to left-center field and Anthony Granato collected a RBI single to left, extending the lead to six.
Long Island got on the scoreboard in the sixth when Ralph Henriquez doubled to start the inning off Skeeters starter Sean Gallagher. He would score two batters later on a sacrifice fly to center by Danny Perales, but that was all the Ducks could muster.
Gallagher (1-0) earned the win, tossing six innings and allowing just one run on two hits while striking out four. DeBarr (0-1) suffered the loss, yielding six runs (five earned) on nine hits in four and one-third innings.
