Long Island unable to overcome pair of homers

(Sugar Land, Texas, April 19, 2013) – The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Sugar Land Skeeters 4-1 on Friday night in the second game of a four-game series at Constellation Field.

Long Island struck first in the opening inning on a sacrifice fly to right field by Ray Navarrete off Skeeters starter Jason Lane. However, Sugar Land answered in their half of the frame with a two-out three-run homer to right by Josh Pressley off Ducks starter John Brownell. Two innings later, Chase Lambin stretched the lead to three with a solo home run to right.

That was all Lane needed to earn the win, allowing just one unearned run on three hits while striking out two in five innings. Brownell took the loss, surrendering four runs on five hits with two strikeouts in five innings of work. Gary Majewski earned the save with one and one-third innings of scoreless baseball.

Adam Bailey led the Flock offensively with a pair of doubles, while Josh Barfield opened the game with a double of his own.

Long Island and Sugar Land continue their four-game set on Saturday night. Game time is slated for 7:05 EDT from Constellation Field. Southpaw Matt Way gets the start for the Ducks against Skeeters righty and former Major Leaguer Scott Elarton.
