Five-run fourth inning leads Sugar Land to win

(Sugar Land, Texas, Aug. 21, 2016) – The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Sugar Land Skeeters 11-1 on Sunday night in the finale of a three-game series at Constellation Field.

Long Island took a 1-0 lead in the first inning on Ruben Gotay’s two-out RBI single off Skeeters starter Michael Nix. Sugar Land tied the game in the bottom of the second on an RBI fielder’s choice from Wilfredo Rodriguez.
The Skeeters took the lead with five runs in the fourth inning, all scoring with two outs. A two-run triple by Johan Limonta, an RBI double from Alberto Cordero and a two-run home run to left field by Josh Prince did the damage. Three more runs in the sixth and two in the seventh rounded out the scoring. A two-single by Prince and an RBI double by Limonta highlighted the scoring.
Nix (1-0) earned the win with six innings of one-run ball, allowing five hits and one walk while striking out six. Jackson Jr. (0-2) took the loss, surrendering nine runs on 12 hits and a walk in five and one-third innings with five strikeouts.
Cody Puckett led the Flock with two hits.
The Ducks return home on Tuesday to open a three-game set against the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs. Game time is slated for 6:35 p.m. with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 5:35 (5:20 for full season ticket holders).
