Jack Snodgrass (3-1) was the story for Long Island, turning in a dominant start to earn the victory. The southpaw tossed six shutout innings, giving up just two singles and one walk while striking out 12 batters.
The only offense he needed came in the second inning. After Sean Burroughs singled, moved to second on a flyout, and advanced to third on a groundout, Mike Dowd lined a two-out RBI single to left field off of Patriots starter Darin Gorski.
Despite pitching well, Gorski (1-1) suffered the loss, yielding a run on five hits and two walks with three strikeouts over five and two-thirds innings. Todd Coffey collected his third save of the year with a 1-2-3 ninth inning, capping a perfect three innings for Long Island’s bullpen.
Burroughs led the way at the plate with two hits for Long Island.
