Ducks late rally not enough

(Bridgewater, N.J., May 22, 2016) – The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Somerset Patriots 4-3 in the series finale Sunday afternoon in TD Bank Ballpark.

The Patriots got on the board in the bottom of the first as Mycal Jones scored on a throwing error from Ducks starter Jack Snodgrass off the bat of Eric Farris. Somerset would score again in the third, as Trayvon Robinson hit a solo home run. Farris grounded into a fielder’s choice in the third, and a lost ball from Mike Blanke allowed Jones to score to put the Patriots on top 3-0.

The Ducks got on the board in the eighth, as Lew Ford singled to score Fehlandt Lentini. The Patriots quickly rebounded in the bottom of the inning as a sacrifice fly from Bryan LaHair scored Jones to make the score 4-1.

Long Island would rally one more time in the top of the ninth. Mike Blanke continued his hot hitting with the RBI-single to score Sean Burroughs. Anthony Vega followed soon after with a single of his own to score Cody Puckett that would bring the game to its final score.

Darin Gorski (2-1) picked up the win, tossing six innings and allowing no runs, on four hits, four walks, and one strikeout. Jack Snodgrass was handed the loss as he pitched six complete innings, allowing three runs (two earned), on two hits, and one walk with seven strikeouts.

The Ducks were led offensively by Ford, who had three hits and an RBI, and Blanke, who had two more hits and an RBI. Long Island returns home on Tuesday, May 24 to begin a three-game set against the Bridgeport Bluefish. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m., with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 5:35 (5:20 for full season ticket holders).
