Ducks fall despite outhitting the Patriots

(Bridgewater, N.J., July 27, 2019) – The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Somerset Patriots 8-3 Saturday night in the middle game of a three-game series at TD Bank Ballpark.
The Ducks struck the first blow as Vladimir Frias launched a two-run home run to left in the top of the second. The Patriots responded in the home half of the fourth with a four-run inning. The frame was highlighted by a couple of run scoring wild pitches, an RBI single from Justin Pacchioli and a bases loaded walk drawn by Alfredo Rodriguez.
The next inning the Flock had an answer after T.J. Rivera laced an RBI single to left, narrowing the Patriots lead to 4-3. However, in the sixth Somerset had back-to-back sacrifice flies by Ramon Flores and Rodriguez. The Patriots added two more runs in the seventh and eighth innings after Will Kengor lifted a solo home run to center and Rodriguez hit an RBI double respectively, totaling their lead at 8-3.
Roy Merritt (3-3) picked up the win for Somerset after tossing five innings, allowing three runs on six hits and two walks while striking out four batters. Kevin McAvoy (0-4) was tagged with the loss after pitching three and two-thirds innings, surrendering four runs on three hits and two walks with three strikeouts.
The Ducks continue their road series on Saturday night in the middle game a three-game series against the Somerset Patriots. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. from TD Bank Ballpark. Right-hander Seth Simmon (5-6, 4.82) gets the start for the Ducks against Patriots starter Liam O’Sullivan (3-5, 4.11).
Long Island returns home on Friday, August 2, to begin a three-game series against the High Point Rockers. Game time is slated for 6:35 p.m., with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 5:35 (5:20 for full season ticket holders). The Ducks will be hosting a special 20th Anniversary Celebration at the ballpark, and following the game, all fans in attendance will be treated to a Fireworks Spectacular, presented by Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center.
