Ducks offense stymied by Patriots southpaw Brett Oberholtzer
 

(Bridgewater, N.J., June 18, 2019) – The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Somerset Patriots 5-2 on Tuesday night in the opener of a three-game series at TD Bank Ballpark.

Michael Crouse put the Patriots in front with a leadoff solo home run to left field in the third inning off Ducks starter Jake Fisher. An RBI double by Will Kengor and a two-run single by Alfredo Rodriguez increased the Patriots lead to 4-0 in the fourth.

Edwin Espinal’s two-out RBI double in the fifth extended the advantage to five. Ramon Cabrera got the Ducks on the scoreboard in the eighth with a two-run double to left-center off Patriots starter Brett Oberholtzer. However, Long Island was unable to inch closer.

Oberholtzer (4-1) earned the win, tossing seven and two-thirds innings of two-run ball, allowing two runs on four hits and a walk while striking out five. Fisher (3-6) suffered the loss, surrendering five runs (four earned) on six hits and a walk in five innings with two strikeouts. Mike Antonini collected his 20th save of the season with a scoreless ninth inning.

The Ducks and Patriots continue their three-game set on Wednesday night. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. from TD Bank Ballpark. Long Island returns home on Friday, June 21, to play a single admission doubleheader against the Lancaster Barnstormers. First pitch for game one is scheduled for 6:00 p.m., with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 5:35 for all fans.
