(Waldorf, Md., June 24, 2012) – The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs 8-3 on Sunday afternoon in the final game of a three-game series at Regency Furniture Stadium.

Southern Maryland jumped in front on a RBI double by Brian Barton in the second off Ducks starter Mike Loree. Brandon Sing answered with a solo homer in the third, his team-leading 10th of the season, off Blue Crabs starter Dan Reichert to tie game at one.

The Crabs took over from there, jumping out to a 7-1 lead with a four-run third and a two-run fifth. A RBI single and a solo homer from Casey Benjamin along with a three-run homer and a solo blast off the bat of Matt Padgett did the damage. Ray Navarrete’s eighth home run of the year in the eighth and Bryant Nelson’s seventh blast of the season in the ninth cut the deficit to five, but it wasn’t enough.

Reichert (4-3) picked up the win, tossing seven innings, allowing just one run on four hits while striking out five. Loree (3-3) suffered the loss, surrendering seven runs on seven hits with five strikeouts in four and one-third innings.

Navarrete, Sing and Nelson each had two hits to pace the offense, combining to go 6-for-11 with three homers, three RBI and three runs.

The Ducks continue their road trip on Monday with the opener of a three-game series against the Somerset Patriots. Game time is slated for 7:05 p.m. from TD Bank Ballpark.
