Lew Ford’s two-hit night on his birthday not enough for Flock to complete series sweep
 

(Central Islip, N.Y., Aug. 12, 2021) – The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs 11-0 on Thursday night in the final game of a four-game series at Fairfield Properties Ballpark.

Southern Maryland’s offense jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning on Zach Collier’s two-run double and David Harris’ RBI single. The Blue Crabs were then fueled by four home runs. Rubi Silva, Matt Hibbert and Joe Luca each hit a solo homer in the third, fifth and sixth innings, respectively, while Alex Crosby added a two-run homer in the eighth.

Blue Crabs starter Blake Bivens (2-2) earned the win, tossing all nine innings, allowing just five hits and one walk while striking out three. Ducks starter Joe Iorio (7-2) took the loss, surrendering eight runs on 11 hits and two walks over five innings with three strikeouts.

Vladimir Frias and Lew Ford led the Ducks offensively with a pair of hits apiece.

The Ducks continue their homestand on Friday night when they open a three-game series against the Lancaster Barnstormers. Game time is slated for 6:35 p.m., with the Fairfield Properties Ballpark gates opening at 5:35 (5:20 for full season ticket holders).
