Long Island drops back-to-back games for the first time in a month

(Waldorf, Md., July 24, 2016) – The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs 2-0 on Sunday afternoon in the finale of a three-game series at Regency Furniture Stadium.

In the fourth inning, D’Arby Myers scored on a Ducks throwing error, giving the Blue Crabs a 1-0 lead. Southern Maryland’s Alfredo Marte hit a solo home run in the seventh, giving the Blue Crabs a 2-0 advantage. In the ninth, Blue Crabs closer Cody Eppley retired the Ducks in order, marring any Long Island comeback.

Dustin Richardson (1-1) took the hard-luck loss, yielding one unearned run on two hits with three strikeouts in five innings. Eppley collected his 17th save with a perfect ninth.

Mark Minicozzi, Anthony Vega, Delta Cleary Jr., and Ruben Gotay each had one hit for the Flock.
