Lancaster spoils great start by Lansford

(Lancaster, Penn., July 12, 2014) – The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Lancaster Barnstormers 5-4 in 12 innings on Saturday night in the third game of a four-game series at Clipper Magazine Stadium.

GAME AUDIO: Highlights from game three of the series

The Ducks jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning on a leadoff solo homer to left field by Fehlandt Lentini and a RBI single by Brandon Bantz off Barnstormers starter Brandon Mann. Long Island doubled the lead in the fourth on a fielding error by Gabe Jacobo that scored Jon Myers and a RBI single by Cody Puckett.

Lancaster pulled to within three on a solo homer to right by Andrew Clark in the fourth off Ducks starter Jared Lansford. It would stay 4-1 until the ninth inning when the Barnstormers tied the game on Clark’s solo homer and Brett Carroll’s two-run homer off Ducks closer Jon Meloan.

Both teams traded zeroes until the bottom of the 12th when Gabe Jacobo ended the game on a walk-off single to center.

Neither starter factored into the decision. Lansford tossed a terrific eight innings of one-run ball, allowing just three hits and two walks while striking out five. Mann surrendered four runs (two earned) on five hits and two walks in three innings of work. Pete Parise (4-3) earned the win after pitching a scoreless inning of relief. Jeremy Accardo (4-6) took the loss, yielding a run on three hits in one and one-third innings.

Puckett led the Flock with four hits on the night, while Adam Bailey chipped in with three.

Long Island and Lancaster wrap up their series on Sunday afternoon. First pitch at Clipper Magazine Stadium is set for 1:00 p.m. Right-hander John Brownell gets the start for the Ducks against Barnstormers righty Mark Rogers.
