Long Island tops York to take final regular season home game

(Central Islip, N.Y., Sept. 11, 2016) – The Long Island Ducks defeated the York Revolution 5-3 on Sunday afternoon in the final home game of the 2016 regular season.

Long Island took a 2-0 lead in the first inning on an RBI double by Dan Lyons and a sacrifice fly from Lew Ford off Revolution starter Micah Owings. Cody Puckett doubled the lead to four in the fourth with a two-run home run to left-center field.

York closed to within 4-3 in the seventh when Bryan Pounds hit a three-run home run to right-center off Ducks starter Nick Struck. However, the Ducks went back up by two in the eighth on an RBI triple from Lyons. The Revolution then put the tying runs on second and third with nobody out in the ninth, but Amalio Diaz struck out three consecutive batters to earn the save.

Struck (3-5) picked up the win, pitching six and two-thirds innings, allowing three runs on six this and three walks while striking out eight. Owings (7-5) took the loss, yielding four runs (three earned) on four hits over seven innings with four strikeouts. Diaz earned his fourth save with a scoreless ninth, giving up a hit and a walk but striking out three.

Lyons and Fehlandt Lentini each had two hits for the Flock, while Lyons and Puckett drove in two runs.

The Ducks begin their final road trip of the regular season on Monday when they kick off a three-game series against the Sugar Land Skeeters. Game time is slated for 8:05 p.m. EDT from Constellation Field. It’s the “Ducks Game of the Week,” and fans can follow all the action live on the Ducks’ flagship radio station, 103.9-FM LI News Radio. Following the road trip, the Ducks will begin the 2016 Atlantic League Playoffs on Wednesday, September 21 at a location to be determined. After playing Games One and Two on the road, the Liberty Division Championship Series will return to Long Island on Friday, September 23 for Game Three. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m., with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 5:35 (5:20). The first 1,000 fans in attendance will receive Playoff Rally Towels, courtesy of News 12 Long Island.
