The Ducks struck first in the top of the third inning on Fehlandt Lentini’s two-out RBI single to right field off Patriots starter Alexis Candelario. One inning later, a two-out RBI single by Ruben Gotay doubled the lead to 2-0.

Long Island extended their advantage to four in the sixth when Lew Ford cracked a two-run homer to right-center field. Bryan LaHair put the Patriots on the scoreboard in the seventh off Ducks starter Nick Struck. However, another RBI single by Lentini in the bottom of the frame pushed the Ducks lead back to four at 5-1.

Two more runs came across in the eighth to round out the scoring for the Flock. Cody Puckett scored from first on a groundout and two throwing errors, and Tyler Colvin followed with a solo home run to right.

Struck (1-0) earned the win with seven innings of one-run ball, allowing just four hits and two walks while striking out three. Candelario (0-1) took the loss, yielding four runs on nine hits in six innings with seven strikeouts. Amalio Diaz and Todd Coffey each pitched a scoreless inning of relief to preserve the win.

Lentini and Ford each had two hits and two RBI to lead the Flock. Gotay, Puckett and Anthony Vega each added two hits as well.
