Ducks suffer fourth consecutive defeat in Texas
(Sugar Land, Texas, June 28, 2015) – The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Sugar Land Skeeters 4-2 on Sunday evening in the finale of a six-game series at Constellation Field.
The Skeeters struck first in the second inning on a RBI single to left-center field by Johan Limonta off of Ducks starter Ian Marshall. Two more runs in the fourth on RBI doubles from Limonta and Chris Wallace extended the advantage to three.
Long Island closed to within one in the fifth with two runs off of Skeeters starter Josh Geer. Bryan Sabatella’s RBI single and Delta Cleary, Jr.’s RBI triple, both with two outs, highlighted the inning. Following an Amadeo Zazueta solo homer in the seventh, the Ducks put the tying runs on in both the eighth and ninth innings. However, they could not pull even.
Geer (3-1) earned the win, tossing six innings, allowing two runs on six hits and two walks while striking out three. Marshall (3-4) suffered the loss, yielding four runs on six hits and a walk with four strikeouts in six and two-thirds innings. Derrick Loop collected his fourth save with a scoreless ninth.
Cleary, Jr. led the Flock with three hits, while Lew Ford and Mike Blanke each added two.
The Ducks return home on Monday to open a four-game series against the Lancaster Barnstormers. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m., with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 5:35 (5:20 for season ticket holders). It will be a 20K Match Game Monday at the ballpark!
