Right-hander tosses five innings of one-run ball in first start with Flock
(Central Islip, N.Y., May 8, 2019) – The Long Island Ducks defeated the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs 7-2 on Wednesday night in the middle game of a three-game series at Bethpage Ballpark.
The Ducks opened the scoring in the third inning on an RBI single to center field from Kirk Nieuwenhuis off Blue Crabs starter Craig Stem. Southern Maryland tied the game in the fourth when Rubi Silva tripled to left off Ducks starter Tim Adleman and scored on Frank Martinez’s RBI groundout.
Long Island took the lead back at 3-1 in the bottom of the fourth on an RBI single to right by Mike Olt and an RBI double to left by Hector Sanchez. A four-run sixth inning for the Flock put the game out of reach at 7-1. Olt’s RBI ground-rule double to left-center, a sac fly to right by Rey Fuentes and a two-run single to left by Steve Lombardozzi did the damage.
Adleman (2-0) earned the win, pitching five innings of one-run ball, allowing three hits and no walks while striking out five. Stem (1-1) took the loss, yielding three runs on five hits and two walks with four strikeouts. Kam Mickolio and Alex Katz each pitched two innings of relief for the Ducks.
Olt led the Flock offensively with two hits, two RBIs and two runs scored.
