Long Island rallies from 5-0 deficit to take game two of doubleheader

(Bridgeport, Conn., May 24, 2017) – The Long Island Ducks split a single admission doubleheader with the Bridgeport Bluefish on Wednesday at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard, dropping the opener 2-0 before rallying back for a 7-5 win in game two.

GAME VIDEO: Watch the Ducks turn a 5-0 deficit to a 7-5 victory in game two

The Bluefish scored both of their runs in game one during the third inning. An RBI single to center field by D’Arby Myers and an RBI triple to center by Luis Hernandez gave Bridgeport all the offense it would need.

Bluefish starter Chris Rearick (2-1) was outstanding to collect the win, pitching six shutout innings and allowing just four hits and a walk while striking out 10 batters. Ducks starter Matt Larkins (0-4) took the hard luck loss, yielding two runs on five hits over five innings with two strikeouts. David Carpenter picked up his 12th save with a scoreless seventh inning, giving up one hit while striking out two.

Bridgeport opened up an early 5-0 lead in game two of the twin bill with four runs in the first inning and another in the second against Ducks starter Jack Snodgrass. An RBI single by Sean Burroughs, an RBI double by Jose Gil, an error that plated two runs and an RBI double by Alberto Callaspo did the damage.

Long Island put together a four-run fourth inning against Bluefish starter Charles Brewer to trim the deficit to one. A two-run double by Marc Krauss, an RBI single by Giovanny Alfonzo and a sacrifice fly off the bat of Dominic Blanco highlighted the inning.

Two more runs in the fifth on RBI singles by Elmer Reyes and Alfonzo put the Ducks in front 6-5. Krauss’ RBI single to right in the seventh rounded out the scoring for the Flock.

Snodgrass did not factor into the decision but lasted two innings, giving up five runs (four earned) on four hits and a walk. Eury De La Rosa (1-0) earned the win with two scoreless innings of relief and was one of four Ducks relievers that combined to pitch five shutout innings in the game. Brewer (3-1) suffered the loss, surrendering six runs on seven hits and two walks with six strikeouts in four and one-third innings. Chin-Hui Tsao picked up his third save with a scoreless seventh, striking out two.

Angelo Songco led the Ducks offensively on the day with five hits in six at-bats and scored three runs in game two. Alfonzo went 3-for-7 with two RBI and a run in the twin bill.

The Ducks and Bluefish wrap up their four-game set on Thursday night. First pitch is scheduled for 7:12 p.m. from The Ballpark at Harbor Yard. Fans can follow all the action online on the Long Island Ducks Broadcast Network. Live streaming HD video and audio will be available via BoxCast on the Ducks’ official Facebook page, YouTube channel and at LIDucks.com. Right-hander Keith Couch (0-1, 7.71) toes the rubber for the Ducks against Bluefish righty Tyler Badamo (1-1, 1.33).

Long Island returns home on Friday, May 26 to kick off a four-game set against the Lancaster Barnstormers. Game time is slated for 6:35 pm, with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 5:35 (5:20 for full-season ticket holders).
