Bridgeport took an early 2-0 lead with single runs in the first and second inning off Ducks starter Connor Graham. A run-scoring double play ball and a solo homer to right by James Simmons accounted for the scoring. Long Island answered with three in their half of the second to jump in front. Bill Hall’s solo homer, Ralph Henriquez’s RBI double and a run-scoring error did the damage.
A RBI double in the fourth by Daniel Mayora tied the game at three, but a sacrifice fly by Dan Lyons and a RBI single by Joash Brodin in the bottom of the frame put the Ducks back in front 5-3. Two runs in the fifth pulled the Bluefish back even at five, but the Ducks would break the tie again in the sixth on a solo homer down the right field line by Brodin.
Adam Bailey’s solo blast to right in the seventh and a run-scoring balk in the eighth rounded out the scoring for the Flock. Simmons’ RBI single in the ninth brought the ‘Fish within one, but that was as close as they would come.
Neither starter factored into the decision. Graham allowed five runs (four earned) on seven hits and three walks in four and one-third innings, and Martinez also yielded five runs (four earned), giving up eight hits with four strikeouts in five innings. Eric Niesen (3-0) earned the win with a scoreless inning of relief, striking out two, while Emiliano Fruto (0-1) took the loss, surrendering a run on two hits and a walk in one inning. Jared Lansford earned his third save by recording the final five outs of the game.
