(Central Islip, N.Y., Aug. 27, 2026) – The Long Island Ducks defeated the Hagerstown Flying Boxcars 13-7 on Thursday night in the third game of a six-game series at Fairfield Properties Ballpark.
The Flying Boxcars jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the second inning on Joe Campagna’s solo home run to left field and Jordan Peyton’s two-run homer to left off Ducks starter Tanner Jacobson. Long Island answered with a five-run third inning against Hagerstown starter Chase Chaney to take a 5-3 lead. Wilmer Difo’s two-run homer to right, Anthony Garcia’s RBI double to right-center, Jorge Bonifacio’s RBI double to left and Marcus Chiu’s RBI single up the middle highlighted the inning.
Two runs in the top of the fifth on Jared Carr’s RBI double to right and Darick Hall’s RBI single to right tied the game at five. However, Long Island’s offense erupted for eight runs in the sixth to take the lead for good. Henry Kusiak’s bases loaded walk, Gavin Collins’ sac fly to center, RBI singles by Garcia and Aaron Antonini, a three-run homer to left by Bonifacio and a solo homer to right by Chiu did the damage.
Neither starter factored into the decision. Jacobson threw four and two-thirds innings, allowing five runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out a season-high 10 batters. Chaney tossed five innings of five-run ball, yielding nine hits with three strikeouts. Luiz Gonzalez (1-0) picked up the win, striking out three batters and allowing a run on a hit in one inning. Chris Wright (0-2) took the loss, conceding three runs on three walks in one-third of an inning.
Chiu led the Ducks offense with four hits, two RBIs, two runs and a walk. Bonifacio added two extra-base hits, four RBIs and two runs. Garcia chipped in with two hits, two RBIs and a run.
The Ducks and Flying Boxcars continue their six-game set on Friday night. Game time is slated for 6:35 p.m., with the Fairfield Properties Ballpark gates opening at 5:35 (5:20 for full season ticket holders). The first 1,500 fans in attendance will receive QuackerJack Oversized Baseball Cards, courtesy of the Anne V. Graziani Fund. It will also be a Tap Room Friday at the ballpark. A pitcher to be determined gets the start for the Ducks against Flying Boxcars righty Rafael Sanchez (0-0, 6.07).
