Barnstormers claim series opener with trio of two-out, two-run hits

(Lancaster, Pa., May 31, 2016) – The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Lancaster Barnstormers 7-1 on Tuesday night in the opener of a three-game series at Clipper Magazine Stadium.

Blake Tekotte opened the scoring for the Ducks with a RBI single to left field in the fourth inning off Barnstormers starter Mike Lee. Josh Bell responded in the bottom of the frame with a two-out, two-run home run to right-center off Ducks starter John Brownell, putting Lancaster on top 2-1.

Two more runs came across for the Barnstormers in the fifth on a two-out, two-run single to right by Kevin Ahrens. Logan Schafer’s solo homer to right in the seventh and a Lance Zawadzki’s two-out, two-run homer to right in the eighth ballooned Lancaster’s advantage to 7-1.

Ryan Dennick (2-1) earned the win with two scoreless innings of relief, allowing just one walk while striking out four. Brownell (3-1) suffered the loss, giving up four runs on eight hits and two walks with five strikeouts in six innings. Lee did not factor into the decision but yielded a run on five hits and a walk while striking out two in four innings.

The Ducks and Barnstormers continue their three-game set on Wednesday night. Game time is slated for 7:00 p.m. from Clipper Magazine Stadium. It’s the “Ducks Game of the Week,” and fans can follow all the action live on the Ducks’ flagship radio station, 103.9-FM LI News Radio. Long Island returns home on Friday, June 3 to begin a three-game set against the Sugar Land Skeeters. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m., with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 5:35 (5:20 for full season ticket holders).
