The Ducks jumped out in front with a two-out RBI double by Mitch Canham off Patriots starter Sean Green in the bottom of the second. However, Somerset took the lead in the following inning with a three-spot against Ducks starter Bob Zimmermann. Run-scoring singles by Jonny Tucker and Freddie Bynum and a RBI double by Jake Fox, all with two outs, did the damage.
It stayed that way until the eighth, when the Ducks cut the deficit to 3-2 on a two-out RBI single by Ray Navarrete. However, a run-scoring error in the top of the ninth for the Patriots rounded out the scoring.
Green (2-1) picked up the win after pitching eight innings, allowing two runs on seven hits while striking out three. Zimmermann (4-4) was saddled with the loss despite tossing a complete game, as he surrendered four runs (three earned) on seven hits with eight strikeouts. Andrew Dobies got his first save of the season with a perfect ninth.
Navarrete and Shawn Williams paced the Flock with two hits apiece.
The Ducks continue their 10-game homestand on Friday, as they host the Sugar Land Skeeters in the first game of a three-game set. Game time is slated for 7:05 p.m., with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 6:05. The first 1,500 fans in attendance will receive Ducks Traditional Logo Baseball Caps, courtesy of Westbury Toyota. The Ducks will also be running their Friday night Pizza Hut K-Man promotion. If the Pizza Hut K-Man strikes out in the game, fans can redeem their game ticket for free breadsticks at a participating Pizza Hut location. Right-hander Jason Monti will get the start for the Ducks against Skeeters southpaw Jason Lane.
