York claims rubber game with big second inning

(York, Penn., Sept. 16, 2015) – The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the York Revolution 10-3 on Wednesday night in the finale of a three-game series at Santander Stadium.

York struck first with a six-spot in the second inning, all with two outs, against Ducks starter Joe Bircher. A two-run double by James Simmons and RBI singles from Nick Ferdinand, Eric Patterson and Andres Perez highlighted the inning. Long Island answered with three runs in the third off of Revolution starter Rommie Lewis. A two-run double by Delta Cleary, Jr. and a RBI triple by Elmer Reyes cut the deficit to 6-3.

The Revolution put three more two-out runs on the scoreboard in the bottom of the third on a RBI double by Patterson and a two-run throwing error by Cody Puckett. A RBI single by Wilson Valdez in the fifth extended the lead to 10-3.

Lewis (10-10) earned the win, tossing eight innings, allowing three runs on nine hits and one walk while striking out eight. Bircher (0-1) suffered the loss, surrendering six runs on seven hits and one walk with three strikeouts in one and two-thirds innings.

Reyes led the Flock with three hits, while Cleary, Jr. added two.

Long Island continues its final road trip of the regular season on Thursday night with the opener of a four-game series against the Lancaster Barnstormers. Game time is slated for 7:00 p.m. from Clipper Magazine Stadium. Left-hander Darin Downs gets the start for the Ducks against Barnstormers righty Edwin Carl. The Ducks will return home to host Games One and Two of the best-of-five Liberty Division Championship Series against the Somerset Patriots on Wednesday, September 23 and Thursday, September 24. Game time for both contests is slated for 6:35 p.m. Prior to each game, the Ducks will be hosting a food drive in conjunction with Island Harvest Food Bank.
