Somerset opened the scoring in the first inning on David Vidal’s two-run home run to left field off Ducks starter Eury De La Rosa. Long Island closed to within 2-1 in the second when Ruben Gotay scored from first on a fielding error.

RBI doubles by Gotay and Mike Dowd in the fourth off Patriots starter Rudy Owens put the Ducks in front 3-2. The Patriots took the lead back though in the fifth on a two-out, two-run homer to right by Aharon Eggleston. A two-run double to left-center by Carlos Guzman in the sixth extended the advantage to 6-3.

Long Island trimmed the deficit to two in the bottom of the sixth on Mike Blanke’s sac fly to center. However, a two-out solo homer to left by Eric Farris in the seventh pushed the lead back to three at 7-4.

Owens (3-3) picked up the win, tossing five and one-third innings, allowing four runs (three earned) on seven hits and two walks while striking out six. De La Rosa (3-4) took the loss, giving up four runs on four hits and two walks with five strikeouts in five innings. Jon Hunton collected his 27th save of the season with a scoreless ninth.

Dowd and Delta Cleary Jr. each had three hits to pace the Ducks, while Gotay and Blanke each added two.
