(Levittown, N.Y., Dec. 21, 2015) – On Monday, December 21, the Long Island Ducks continued their annual TD Bank “Take a Duck to Class” essay contest visits at Jonas E. Salk Middle School. Sixth grader Sean Napoli was recognized for being one of four winners with his outstanding essay on “Who is a hero in your community and why?”

An assembly was held in the auditorium for Sean to congratulate him for his marvelous achievement. His teacher, Mrs. Kind, addressed the students and played a video tribute to Sean’s popa (grandfather), Anthony, who he chose as his hero. Anthony was later presented with a R.I.S.E. award plaque from the school for his previous service in the United States Navy and perseverance in winning a battle with stomach cancer. The student body gave Anthony multiple standing ovations during the assembly.

Ducks representatives were also on hand to address the students and read Sean’s terrific essay aloud. He was then awarded with a $50 Visa gift card, courtesy of TD Bank, by North Wantagh Store Manager Ryan Koutsogiannis. To cap off the ceremony, Ducks mascot, QuackerJack, was introduced to thunderous applause, and Anthony took questions from Sean’s fellow sixth graders about his time in the Navy.

After the assembly was complete, Sean and his family took photos together before leading QJ back to his classroom. The visit concluded with a special autograph and photo session for those in his class. Each student received a gift bag full of goodies as well, courtesy of TD Bank.
