Bridgeport drove in a run in the first with a RBI sac fly by Prentice Redman off Ducks starter Randy Keisler, but Long Island quickly evened the score in their half of the frame on a RBI single from Ray Navarrete off Bluefish starter Isaac Hess. Luis Rodriguez put the Bluefish back on top with a solo home run in the second and added another RBI with a double to left-center field in the fourth, giving the visitors a 3-1 advantage.
Long Island took the lead with three runs in the sixth on a sac fly by Dan Lyons and a two-run double by Reid Gorecki, and added an insurance run in the seventh on a run-scoring single from Lyons. However, a solo homer by Brock Peterson in the eighth and a run-scoring wild pitch in the ninth tied the game at five apiece.
Shawn Williams quickly turned frustration to elation with a walk-off home run to left leading off the bottom of the ninth.
Neither starter factored into the decision. Keisler tossed seven and one-third innings, allowing four runs (three earned) on six hits while striking out six, and Hess gave up four runs on eight hits in five and one-third innings of work. Jon Meloan (3-0) would get the win despite allowing the tying run in one inning of relief, and Pike (1-3) took the loss after giving up the game-winning homer.
Kraig Binick and Gorecki paced the Ducks with three hits apiece, while Lyons and Gorecki chipped in two RBI apiece.
Long Island hits the road to face the York Revolution on Friday night in the opener of a three-game series. Game time is slated for 6:30 p.m. at Sovereign Bank Stadium.
