ORIOLES SIGN FORD

Ford is fourth Duck signed by MLB in 2012

(Central Islip, N.Y., May 18, 2012)
The Long Island Ducks today announced that outfielder Lew Ford has been signed by the Baltimore Orioles organization. He becomes the fourth Duck to be signed by a Major League organization in 2012.

“Lew has been a tremendous part of our lineup so far this season,” says Ducks President/General Manger Michael Pfaff. “We wish him the best of luck with the Orioles organization.”

Ford, who will join the Triple-A Norfolk Tides, hit .333 (25-for-75) in 19 games this season with four home runs, 14 RBI and 16 runs scored, tied for third in the Atlantic League. The outfielder was also second in total bases (47), tied for second in extra-base hits (12) and tied for fourth in slugging percentage (.627). The Texas native will play for his fourth Major League organization after spending two seasons with the Red Sox, seven seasons with the Twins and one year with the Reds.

In another transaction, the Ducks have traded the rights of infielder Javier Colina to the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs in exchange for future considerations. Colina hit .309 while with the Ducks in 2011 with 25 homers and a team-leading 90 RBI. He was selected to play in the Atlantic League All-Star Game and was named a postseason First Team Atlantic League All-Star.

The Long Island Ducks are members of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball and play their home games at Bethpage Ballpark. For further information, call (631) 940-DUCK or visit www.liducks.com.
