DUCKS DROP SERIES OPENER IN BRIDGEPORT

(Bridgeport, Conn., July 13, 2012)
– The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Bridgeport Bluefish 9-4 on Friday night in the first game of a three-game set at the Ballpark at Harbor Yard.

Both teams exchanged zeros until the top of the third when Ray Navarrete hit a RBI double, his league leading 29th of the season, off Bridgeport starter Paul Oseguera. The Bluefish quickly took the lead in the bottom half of the inning with back-to-back RBI singles by Kennard Jones and Eddie Rodgers off Ducks starter Nick Singleton.

Bridgeport would add another run on a run-scoring double off the bat of Luis Figueroa in the fifth inning. However, Long Island would answer back in the top of the sixth with a RBI double by Reid Gorecki and a two-run single from Shawn Williams giving the Ducks a 4-3 lead.

The Bluefish would tack on six more runs with two RBI singles, a two-run single and a run-scoring error in the sixth. Another run in the seventh for Bridgeport put the game out of reach.

Singleton (1-2) was saddled with the loss pitching five and one-third innings, allowing five runs on six hits while striking out six, and Julio DePaula (1-0) picked up the win tossing one-third of an inning in relief allowing one run on two hits. Oseguera did not factor into the decision as he went five and two-third innings, yielding three runs (one earned) on four hits with six strikeouts.

Gorecki and Williams led the Flock with two hits, while Williams added two RBI.

The cross-Sound rivals continue their three-game set on Saturday night. Game time is slated for 6:05 p.m. from The Ballpark at Harbor Yard. Fans can follow the action live on the radio at MyCountry 96.1 FM and onlin
