(Central Islip, N.Y., May 6, 2018) – The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs 3-0 on Sunday afternoon in the finale of a three-game series at Bethpage Ballpark.

Southern Maryland took an early 1-0 lead on an RBI groundout from Ryan Strausborger in the first inning. It remained that way until the fifth inning when an RBI single by Jose Gonzalez and a sacrifice fly off the bat of Andrew Daniel increased the Blue Crabs lead to three.

Drake Britton (1-0) earned the win for the Blue Crabs, tossing five scoreless innings, allowing just one hit and two walks while striking out three. John Brownell (1-1) took the loss for Long Island, giving up three runs on four hits and two walks over five and two-thirds innings with seven strikeouts. Ryan Chaffee picked up his first save of the year with a scoreless ninth inning. Long Island’s pitching staff combined to strike out 14 Blue Crabs batters in the game, a new season-high.

The Ducks return to action on Tuesday night when they visit the New Britain Bees to begin a three-game series. First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. from New Britain Stadium. Fans can follow all the action on the Long Island Ducks Broadcast Network. Live streaming HD video and audio will be available via BoxCast on the Ducks official Facebook page, YouTube channel and at LIDucks.com. Left-hander Andrew Barbosa (1-0, 1.80) gets the start for the Ducks against Bees righty Kyle Simon (0-1, 9.00).

Long Island returns home on Friday, May 11 to open up a three-game series against the Sugar Land Skeeters. Game time is slated for 6:35 p.m., with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 5:35 (5:20 for full season ticket holders). It’s a Bowlero Friday at the ballpark, and as fans exit the ballpark following the game, Ducks staff members will be handing out coupons for a special “buy one game of bowling, get one free” offer, courtesy of Bowlero. In addition, the Ducks will be running their Red Robin K-Man promotion! A player on the Skeeters will be designated as the K-Man of the game, and if he strikes out, all fans in a lucky section of the ballpark will win a special “buy one entree, get one half off” discount, courtesy of Red Robin.
