DUCKS BREAK OUT BATS TO TAKE SERIES FINALE

Offense racks up eight runs and 15 hits to defeat Somerset

(Central Islip, N.Y., May 27, 2018) – The Long Island Ducks defeated the Somerset Patriots 8-2 on Sunday afternoon in the finale of a three-game series at Bethpage Ballpark.

After a first-inning run by the Patriots, the Ducks sent 10 batters to the plate in the second inning and scored six runs off Somerset starter Trevor Foss. A two-run single up the middle by Alec Sole, a wild pitch that scored Sole and a two-out, three-run double to right field by Lew Ford highlighted the inning.

Long Island added another run in the fourth on Cody Puckett’s two-out RBI single to left. The Patriots closed to within 7-2 in the fifth when Adam Weisenburger scored from third on a passed ball. However, the Ducks got the run back in the seventh on Travis Snider’s RBI single to right.

Ducks starter Jair Jurrjens (2-2) earned the win, pitching five innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits and a walk while striking out three. Foss (1-2) suffered the loss, yielding six runs on five hits and three walks in just one and two-thirds innings of work. Daniel Schlereth, Rob Rogers, Vinnie Pestano and Francisco Rodriguez each tossed a scoreless inning of relief, combining to allow just one hit while striking out two.

Every Duck had at least one hit in the ballgame. Sole had two hits, two RBIs and a run, while Snider added two hits, an RBI and a run scored.
