DUCKS TOP ROAD WARRIORS FOR FOURTH CONSECUTIVE WIN

Four-run first, pair of late runs give Flock series-opening win

(Central Islip, N.Y., Aug. 24, 2018) – The Long Island Ducks defeated the Road Warriors 6-4 on Friday night in the opener of a three-game series at Bethpage Ballpark.

The Ducks jumped out to an early 4-0 lead against Road Warriors starter Alberto Rodriguez. Jordany Valdespin and Daniel Fields scored on a throwing error, a sac fly from Ramon Cabrera brought home Lew Ford and an RBI double by Miles Williams plated David Washington.

The Road Warriors closed to within 4-3 with a run in the second and two in the third off Ducks starter Hector Silvestre. RBI singles by Ermindo Escobar and Melvin Rodriguez-Ortiz, as well as a sac fly from Jorge Fernandez-Diaz, did the damage. Gustavo Pierre then tied the game in the sixth with a solo home run to left.

Long Island responded right away to take the lead, as a sac fly from Williams in the bottom of the sixth brought home Ford with the go-ahead run. Dan Lyons then capped the scoring in the seventh with a leadoff solo homer to left field.

Silvestre (2-0) picked up the win, tossing six innings, allowing four runs on 10 hits and a walk while striking out three. Rodriguez (1-4) took the loss, conceding five runs (one earned) on six hits and three walks over six innings with seven strikeouts. Francisco Rodriguez earned his 24th save of the year with a scoreless ninth inning.

Ford led the Flock with three hits and two runs scored. Lyons added two hits, while Williams drove in two runs.

The Ducks and Road Warriors continue their three-game set on Saturday night. Game time is slated for 6:35 p.m., with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 5:35 (5:20 for full season ticket holders). Following the game, all fans in attendance will be treated to a Fireworks Spectacular, which will light the sky over the center field wall, presented by Janney Montgomery Scott. In addition, Ducks staff members will be handing out coupons for $10 off a purchase of $50 or more at Dick's Sporting Goods to fans as they exit the ballpark following the fireworks show. Right-hander Matt Larkins (6-4, 4.29) takes the mound for the Ducks against Road Warriors righty Raul Rivera-Alicea (4-12, 4.63).
