FISHER GOES THE DISTANCE IN SERIES-OPENING MASTERPIECE

Southpaw twirls complete game gem as Ducks top Road Warriors

(Central Islip, N.Y., Sept. 7, 2018) – The Long Island Ducks defeated the Road Warriors 4-1 on Friday night in the opener of a three-game series at Bethpage Ballpark.

Ducks starter Jake Fisher (7-7) was masterful to earn the victory. The southpaw went all nine innings for Long Island, allowing just one run on five hits and no walks while striking out three batters. His only blemish came with two outs in the ninth when Jose Julio-Ruiz lifted a solo home run to right field. Fisher threw just 89 pitches over his nine innings of work, 61 of which were strikes.

Long Island gave Fisher a 2-0 lead in the third inning on a two-out, two-run home run to right field by Rubi Silva, his first longball as a Duck. A triple by Daniel Fields followed by an RBI groundout from Lew Ford in the sixth extended the lead to three. Steve Longo then rounded out the scoring in the seventh with a two-out RBI single to right field.

Road Warriors starter Felix Baez (3-11) took the loss, pitching all eight innings, allowing four runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out 11. He threw 127 pitches in the game, 70 for strikes.

Fields led the Flock offensively with a pair of extra-base hits.

The Ducks and Road Warriors continue their three-game set on Saturday night. Game time is slated for 6:35 p.m., with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 5:35 (5:20 for full season ticket holders).
