DUCKS BLANK BARNSTORMERS IN ROAD TRIP FINALE

Way’s strong start gives Ducks first win of 2013

(Lancaster, Penn., April 25, 2013) – The Long Island Ducks shut out the Lancaster Barnstormers 6-0 on Thursday night in the final game of a three-game series at Clipper Magazine Stadium.

Long Island struck first in the third inning as Ray Navarrete scored from third on a wild pitch thrown by Barnstormers starter Jay Buente. Four more runs in the fourth extended the Ducks lead to five. Joash Brodin uncorked a three-run homer to right, and Rian Kiniry scored on a wild pitch by Brian Tallet to account for the damage. Danny Perales capped the scoring in the ninth with a RBI single to left.

That was more than enough for Ducks starter Matt Way (1-0) to earn the win as he tossed seven shutout innings, allowing just four hits while striking out five. Buente (1-1) suffered the loss, yielding five runs (three earned) on four hits in three and one-third innings. Jared Lansford and Eric Niesen each threw a scoreless inning in relief for the Ducks.

Perales and Brodin each led the Flock with two hits at the plate.

The Ducks return home on Friday for the 2013 home opener against the Sugar Land Skeeters. Game time is slated for 7:05 p.m., with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 6:05. The first 1,500 fans in attendance will receive Replica Championship Rings, courtesy of P.C. Richard and Son. Prior to the game, the Ducks will also host a Championship Ring and Banner Raising Ceremony to celebrate the team’s 2012 Atlantic League championship. Fans are asked to be in their seats by 6:30 to enjoy this special moment in Ducks history.
