SKEETERS BITE DUCKS IN MIDDLE GAME

Ducks offense quieted by Sugar Land pitching

(Central Islip, N.Y., April 27, 2013) – The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Sugar Land Skeeters 7-1 on Saturday night in the second game of a three-game series at Bethpage Ballpark.

The Skeeters jumped out to an early 2-0 lead with single runs in the first and second inning off Ducks starter Nick DeBarr. A RBI double by Josh Pressley and a run-scoring single by Adam Godwin did the damage. It stayed that way until the fifth when Koby Clemens hit a three-run home run to left-center field and Anthony Granato collected a RBI single to left, extending the lead to six.

Long Island got on the scoreboard in the sixth when Ralph Henriquez doubled to start the inning off Skeeters starter Sean Gallagher. He would score two batters later on a sacrifice fly to center by Danny Perales, but that was all the Ducks could muster.

Gallagher (1-0) earned the win, tossing six innings and allowing just one run on two hits while striking out four. DeBarr (0-1) suffered the loss, yielding six runs (five earned) on nine hits in four and one-third innings.

The Ducks and Skeeters wrap up their three-game set on Sunday afternoon. Game time is slated for 1:35 p.m., with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 12:35. The first 1,500 fans in attendance will receive Championship Autograph Books courtesy of Newsday. It’s also the first Sunday Family Funday of the year, presented by Bethpage Federal Credit Union. Prior to the game, fans will be invited onto the field for an autograph session with the Ducks. After the game, kids (and kids at heart) will have the opportunity to take part in Kid Run the Bases. Southpaw Bill Murphy gets the start for Long Island against Sugar Land right-hander Michael Nix.

Tickets for the game and all Ducks regular season home games are now on sale. Fans can purchase their tickets by visiting the Bethpage Ballpark box office, calling 631-940-TIXX or by CLICKING HERE. Fans unable to make the game can follow all the action live on the radio home of the Ducks, 103.9-FM, with Michael Polak calling the play-by-play. Live streaming video of the game will also be available on the Ducks’ official YouTube channel, www.youtube.com/ducksbaseball.

Duck Tales: After retiring the first two batters, Nick DeBarr allowed a single to Chase Lambin. It ended a streak of six and two-thirds perfect innings thrown by the Ducks right-handers. DeBarr struck out nine while retiring all 18 Skeeters batters he faced last Sunday in Sugar Land, Texas…The Ducks’ home run streak ended at five consecutive games after they did not go deep in Saturday’s contest. The Flock had hit eight homers as a team in the last five games…The Ducks bullpen continued their strong start to the season, allowing just one run on three hits while striking out six in four and two-thirds innings. In the series, the Ducks bullpen has yielded just that three runs (one earned) on six hits with 14 strikeouts in 11 innings of work.
