DUCKS STRIKE EARLY TO HOLD OFF REVS

(York, Penn., June 9, 2012) – The Long Island Ducks defeated the York Revolution 12-8 on Saturday night in the middle game of a three-game set at Sovereign Bank Stadium.

GAME AUDIO: Ray Navarrete's two-run homer in the first

GAME AUDIO: Matt Esquivel's two-run double in the sixth

GAME AUDIO: Kraig Binick picks up his fifth hit of the game

The Ducks struck first for two runs in the opening inning off York starter Omar Javier on a two-run homer by Ray Navarrete. The Revolution tied it in the bottom of the second with a two-run single by Brandon Haveman off Ducks starter Jason Monti. Long Island would answer with six more runs in the next two innings, with a sac fly by Navarrete and RBI singles from Brandon Sing and Reid Gorecki highlighting the scoring.

After the Revolution cut the lead in half with single runs in the third and the fourth, a two-run double to center field in the sixth by Matt Esquivel and a sacrifice fly by Gorecki in the seventh put the Ducks up 11-4. The Revs would rally to plate three runs in the seventh and one more in the eighth, but that was all they could muster.

Monti (5-2) got the win, tossing five innings and allowing four runs on seven hits while striking out five. Javier (0-4) suffered the loss, surrendering six runs (five earned) on three hits and four walks in two and two-thirds innings. Jon Meloan picked up his ninth save by getting the final five outs.

Kraig Binick led the Ducks with a five-hit performance, only the second Duck to do so this season, while Navarrete, Gorecki and Josh Johnson each chipped in two hits.
