SING SLUGS DUCKS TO EXTRA INNING VICTORY

(York, Penn., June 8, 2012) – The Long Island Ducks defeated the York Revolution 8-7 in 10 innings on Friday night in the opening game of a three-game set at Sovereign Bank Stadium.

GAME AUDIO: Navarrete's second RBI double of the game

GAME AUDIO: Brandon Sing's game-winning solo homer

GAME AUDIO: Josh Lansford strikes out Brandon Haveman for his first save

The Ducks struck first for two runs in the opening inning off York starter Corey Thurman on a RBI double by Ray Navarrete and a RBI single by Matt Esquivel. The Revolution cut the deficit in half on a run-scoring double play ball off Ducks starter Mike Loree in the bottom of the frame.

Four more runs in the third for Long Island on a repeat of RBI hits by Navarrete and Esquivel, a sac fly off the bat of Bryant Nelson and a run-scoring error increased the lead to 6-1. A RBI single by Chris Nowak in the third and a solo homer by Andres Perez in the sixth trimmed the advantage to three, but a RBI single by James McOwen in the eighth made it 7-3 Ducks.

The Revs would rally to tie the game at seven with two runs in the eighth inning and a two-run homer by Nowak in the ninth. However, Brandon Sing put the Ducks back on top for good with a solo blast to left in the 10th, his team-leading ninth longball of the year.

Neither starter factored into the decision. Loree tossed six and two-thirds innings, allowing three runs on eight hits while striking out three, and Thurman surrendered six runs on six hits and three walks in five innings. Jon Hunton (1-0) got the win in his Ducks debut despite allowing two runs on two hits in one and one-third innings, and R.J. Rodriguez (0-2) took the loss, yielding the winning run in the 10th. Josh Lansford collected his first save with a perfect inning of work, striking out two.

Navarrete led the Ducks with three hits, while he and Esquivel each drove in two runs.

Long Island and York continue their series on Saturday evening. Game time is slated for 6:30 p.m. at Sovereign Bank Stadium. Fans can follow all the action live on the radio at MyCountry 96.1 FM and online at www.liducks.com by clicking the Listen Live icon on the homepage.
