18th season of Ducks baseball begins April 21; Home opener April 28
 

(Central Islip, N.Y., Oct. 27, 2016) – The Long Island Ducks today announced the dates and start times for the 2017 regular season. The Ducks will host their 18th season of play in the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball and look to earn their fifth Championship Series appearance in seven seasons and fourth Atlantic League championship overall. The 2017 schedule boasts home games on 11 weekends (Friday – Sunday) during the course of the season.

“We are excited to take the field during the Atlantic League’s 20th Anniversary Season,” said Ducks President/GM Michael Pfaff. “Fans will continue to enjoy exciting baseball and affordable family entertainment all year long.”

The 2017 season will feature a 140-game schedule that begins on the road April 20. The seven-game trip will see the Ducks play four games against the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs and three against the rival Somerset Patriots, whom the Ducks defeated for the Liberty Division championship in the 2016 playoffs. Long Island then returns for the home opener on Friday, April 28 against the New Britain Bees at 6:35 p.m.

The Ducks will host a day/night doubleheader at the Duck Pond on Saturday, May 27 against the Lancaster Barnstormers, with games at 1:05 and 6:35 p.m. In addition, the Ducks will host their Fifth Annual Camp Day on Wednesday, July 26 against the defending Atlantic League champion Sugar Land Skeeters, with first pitch slated for 11:05 a.m. Fans will once again be treated to an Independence Day Celebration like no other from July 1-4, with fireworks extravaganzas following all four games. Long Island will also play at a special time of 1:35 p.m. on Labor Day, Monday, September 4, against the Bees. The full promotional schedule will be released in early March.

Both halves of the season will be 70 games long, with the first half ending on Sunday, July 2 against Southern Maryland and the season concluding on Sunday, September 17 at Sugar Land. The 20th Annual Atlantic League All-Star Game will take place on Wednesday, July 12 at Somerset’s TD Bank Ballpark in Bridgewater, N.J. The Ducks will play each team in the league 20 times.

Game times at Bethpage Ballpark will remain the same as they were in 2016. All Monday through Saturday games, unless otherwise noted, will begin at 6:35 p.m. Start times for Sunday contests will be 1:35 p.m. in April, May, June and September and 5:05 p.m. in July and August.
