National Anthem, on-field host and PA tryouts April 5
(Central Islip, N.Y., March 27, 2014) – It’s time to step into the spotlight at Bethpage Ballpark! The Long Island Ducks, in conjunction with 106.1-FM WBLI, will hold their annual “Anthem Idol” contest on Saturday, April 5 at Bethpage Ballpark. Registration is slated to get underway at 9:00 a.m., and contestants will be vying for six anthem openings during the 2014 season. If you want to sing the National Anthem at the Duck Pond during the 15th Anniversary Season, this is your opportunity!
The panel of judges will consist of representatives from the Ducks and WBLI. Following “Anthem Idol,” the team will also be hosting tryouts for on-field host and public address announcer positions this season (start time is approximately 12:00). Anyone interested in trying out for either position should send an e-mail expressing their interest to [email protected].
“Long Island is chock full of talented singers and anthem performers,” says Ducks promotions and community outreach manager Jordan Schiff. “We are proud to offer them this unique opportunity to showcase their talent in front of our judges and hopefully, our passionate fan base.”
Performances must be done a capella with a one-minute, thirty-second time limit, and Anthem lyrics must be sung from memory. Instrumentalists and other unique performers are encouraged to participate as well. No tapes will be accepted. The lucky winners will each be notified within two weeks following the “Anthem Idol” competition.
The Long Island Ducks are members of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball and play their home games at Bethpage Ballpark. For further information, call (631) 940-DUCK or visit www.liducks.com.
