Contestants to audition for National Anthem performance opportunity this season

The Long Island Ducks and 106.1-FM WBLI have joined forces once again to present the annual “Anthem Idol” competition. This year’s event will take place on Saturday, April 7 at Bethpage Ballpark.

“Singers and musicians from Long Island are among the best in the world,” says Ducks Director of Marketing and Promotions Jordan Schiff. “Our National Anthem performances have been amazing each season, and we cannot wait to see this year’s talent pool at Anthem Idol.”

Registration is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. on April 7, with performances to follow shortly thereafter. Contestants will be vying for one of six anthem openings during the Ducks 2018 All-Star Summer, presented by Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center. The panel of judges will consist of select representatives from WBLI and the Long Island Ducks.

All performances must be done a capella and have a time limit of one minute and 30 seconds. Anthem lyrics must be sung from memory, and musicians are also encouraged to participate. No audio/video tapes will be accepted. This year’s lucky winners will each be notified in the weeks following Anthem Idol.

Prior to the event, the Ducks will host tryouts for on-field host and public address announcer positions during the 2018 season. Audition start time is approximately 9:00 a.m. Those wishing to try out for either the on-field host or public address announcer role should contact Jordan Schiff via email ([email protected]) to express their interest.

The Long Island Ducks are members of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball and play their home games at Bethpage Ballpark. For further information, call (631) 940-DUCK or visit www.liducks.com.
