QuackerJack, players and coaches spend day with children in pediatric units

(Central Islip, N.Y., Feb. 14, 2018) – On Wednesday, February 14, the Long Island Ducks celebrated Valentine’s Day by visiting children in the pediatric units at Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip and Stony Brook Children’s Hospital.

Long Island’s favorite mascot, QuackerJack, Ducks manager Kevin Baez, shortstop Dan Lyons and outfielder/hitting coach Lew Ford all joined members of the Ducks Street Team for the special day. Each helped “spread the love” by handing out specially-made Valentine’s Day cards from children at the Building Blocks Preschool in Commack. In addition, each child received a Ducks Team Photo personally signed by the players, coaches and QJ.

Every patient smiled from ear to ear upon seeing members of their hometown team. In addition to posing for pictures, several children also showed off their sporting skills. At Good Samaritan Hospital, kids joined Baez and Lyons for a game of foosball in the hospital’s playroom. While at Stony Brook Children’s, one energetic patient showcased his basketball skills to QuackerJack and Ford in a shooting contest.
