Long Island wins series from Lancaster

(Lancaster, Penn., Aug. 8, 2013) – The Long Island Ducks topped the Lancaster Barnstormers 3-1 on Thursday night in the finale of a three-game series at Clipper Magazine Stadium.

GAME AUDIO: Highlights from the victory

Travis Denker opened the scoring for the Barnstormers in the fourth inning with a RBI single off Ducks starter James Houser. Long Island quickly tied it up with Ramon Castro hitting a solo home run to right on the first pitch of the fifth inning off Lancaster starter Derrick Loop.

The Ducks took their first lead in the eighth inning, when Bill Hall drove in a run with a double to left, and Ramon Castro hit a sacrifice fly to right field, and that was all Long Island would need.

Neither starter factored in the decision. Houser threw six innings, giving up one unearned run on five hits, with no walks and eight strikeouts. Loop tossed seven innings of five hit, one run baseball. Ian Snell (2-2) picked up the win, throwing an inning and a third of relief, giving up one hit with two strikeouts. Jason Richardson (3-1) allowed two runs on three hits in one inning to take the loss. Jared Lansford pitched a scoreless ninth to pick up his ninth save.

The Ducks continue their nine game road trip on Friday with the opener of a six-game series against the Sugar Land Skeeters. Game time is slated for 8:05 p.m. EDT from Constellation Field. Fans can follow all the action live on the radio home of the Ducks, 103.9-FM WRCN or online by CLICKING HERE. Right-hander Nick DeBarr starts for the Ducks against Skeeters righty Greg Aquino.
