(East Northport, N.Y., Jan. 27, 2017) – On Thursday, January 26, the Long Island Ducks spent an hour at Harley Avenue Primary School for the third of their TD Bank “Take a Duck to Class” essay contest visits. Kindergarten student Madelyn Moreno was honored for her winning essay about why her father, Luis, a firefighter, is a hero in her community.

Ducks Assistant GM/Senior VP of Sales Doug Cohen kicked off an assembly for the kindergarten class by explaining why the visit was taking place and congratulating Madelyn on her wonderful essay. The star of the show even got up in front of the class to read her work aloud, to which she received a resounding applause. TD Bank representatives Eric Fishon and Robert Lashuk were also on hand and showed their appreciation for Madelyn’s essay by presenting her with a $50 Visa gift card.

Fishon followed by helping the students welcome QuackerJack into the auditorium with a loud cheer of his name. QJ gave Madelyn a high five to celebrate her being a winner and then showed off some of his best dances. Students in the audience had the opportunity to ask questions, with many finding out why Luis was chosen as Madelyn’s hero and why he chose to become a firefighter. To cap the experience, Madelyn’s entire class enjoyed a private autograph session with QuackerJack in their classroom and took home cool new gift bags, courtesy of TD Bank and the Ducks.

TD Bank “Take a Duck to Class” essay contestants were able fill out applications on LIDucks.com this fall and submit an essay of 250 words or less on the theme “Who is a hero in your community and why?” Four lucky winners were selected from an entry pool that included thousands of essays.
