Sugar Land cracked the scoreboard with four runs in the second inning off Ducks starter Bill Murphy. RBI singles by Dominic Ramos and Adam Godwin along with a two-run triple to left-center by Dustin Martin did the damage. Three more runs in the fourth on a two-run home run to right by Martin and a solo homer to left by Steve Moss extended the lead to seven.

Long Island cut the deficit to five with single runs in the fourth and fifth off Skeeters starter Michael Nix. A run-scoring wild pitch and a RBI single by Bryant Nelson highlighted the scoring. Skeeter reliever Greg Aquino entered with two outs in the fifth to squash retire Ryan Strieby and strand the bases loaded. Four Sugar Land runs in the seventh on a solo homer by Aaron Bates and a three-run home run by Dominic Ramos put the game out of reach.

Aquino (2-0) picked up the win with one and one-third scoreless innings of relief. Nix did not factor into the decision, tossing four and two-thirds innings, allowing two runs on seven hits while striking out four. Murphy (0-3) suffered the loss, yielding four runs on three hits and four walks in two innings.

Nelson, Strieby and Suarez each had two hits to pace the offense.

The Ducks open up a three game set against the Somerset Patriots on Tuesday night. Game time is slated for 6:35 p.m., with the Bethpage Ballpark gates opening at 5:35. The first 3,500 fans in attendance will receive Championship Magnet Schedules courtesy of the QuackerJack Foundation. Duck Tales: Ryan Strieby hit his first home run as a Duck with a solo shot to left-center in the eighth inning. The Ducks have now hit nine home runs in the season’s first 10 games, with all nine coming in the last seven contests. Strieby combined to hit 16 longballs last season with three different teams…Ducks pitchers combined to strike out eight Skeeters batters in the game, extending their season total to 81. That’s good for second-most in the Atlantic League behind the York Revolution who have 82. Long Island’s pitching staff struck out 28 Skeeters batters during the three-game series…With two hits in the contest, Bryant Nelson and Gabe Suarez each picked up their second multi-hit game of the season. Four other Ducks have also picked up a pair of two-hit contests in 2012 (Brodin, Bailey, Perales and Castro).
