Ducks infielder receives annual honor and also named Whistle Player of Year

(Central Islip, N.Y., Oct. 10, 2021) – The Long Island Ducks today announced that infielder Steve Lombardozzi has been voted the team’s Most Valuable Player for the 2021 season, presented by Delmonte-Smelson Jewelers. The announcement was made prior to the Ducks regular season home finale on Sunday, October 10, which was Fan Appreciation Day at the ballpark, presented by Coca-Cola.
Lombardozzi received the most selections during fan voting at LIDucks.com for the team’s MVP award. The infielder put together a career year at the plate, leading all Ducks hitters in nearly every offensive category. He led the Flock in batting average (.329), runs batted in (83), runs scored (99), hits (143), total bases (221), doubles (24), triples (3), walks (90), on-base percentage (.440), slugging percentage (.508) and OPS (.940). He also ranked highly among Atlantic Leaguers in several categories. He led the league in walks and games played (119) while ranking second in hits, third in at bats (435), fourth in runs, sixth in on-base percentage, seventh in total bases, batting, and eighth in RBIs and stolen bases (20). Lombardozzi was spectacular defensively as well, committing just four errors on the infield all season.
The Ducks also announced that Lombardozzi has been named the P.C. Richard and Son Whistle Player of the Year. The former big leaguer scored the most runs in games which he was designated as the Whistle Player of the Game. For being chosen as the Team MVP, Lombardozzi received a special gift, courtesy of Delmonte-Smelson Jewelers. By winning the Whistle Player of the Year competition, he received a $500 gift card, courtesy of P.C. Richard and Son.
