Shaw cracks his first home run as a member of the Flock

(Waldorf, Md., Sept. 15, 2021) – The Long Island Ducks were defeated by the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs 7-4 on Wednesday night in the second of a three-game midweek series at Regency Furniture Stadium.

Southern Maryland took a 3-0 lead in the bottom half of the first against Long Island starting pitcher Brendan Feldmann as Josh McAdams cleared the bases with an opposite-field double to right. Long Island cut the deficit to 3-2 one half inning later versus Blue Crabs starter Josh Roeder courtesy of a two-run home run to centerfield produced by Chris Shaw, his first big fly in a Ducks uniform.

After the Blue Crabs added a pair of insurance runs to open up a 5-2 advantage, the visitors got to within 5-3 in the top of the fourth as Ramon Flores plated Lew Ford with an RBI base knock after Ford led off the frame with an infield single. Trailing 7-3 in the eighth, Ford was at it once again as Long Island’s hitting coach drove in Steve Lombardozzi with a run-scoring two-base hit that got the Ducks to within 7-4 after Lombardozzi drew a free pass to begin the frame. The Flock would get no closer as Mat Latos retired the side in order in the ninth for his 21st save of the season and second in as many nights.

Feldmann (6-4) was tagged with the loss, surrendering six runs on six hits (one home run) across four innings pitched, walking and striking out three while hitting a batter. Roeder (2-0) collected the win, allowing three runs on six hits (one home run) in seven innings on the mound, walking two, striking out five, and hitting a batter. Ford had three hits in defeat, the second consecutive three hit performance in the series for the 11-year veteran of the Flock.
