Anthem Idol competition returns to Bethpage Ballpark

Who’s ready to sing in front of thousands of fans this year? The Long Island Ducks, in conjunction with 106.1-FM WBLI, will hold their annual “Anthem Idol” contest TODAY, Saturday, April 2, at Bethpage Ballpark. Registration will take place promptly at 9:00 a.m., and contestants will be vying for six anthem openings during the 2016 season. If you want to compete to sing the National Anthem during a Ducks home game, this is your opportunity!

“Every year, we’re always impressed with the talented performers that come out to this competition,” says Ducks Director of Marketing and Promotions Jordan Schiff. “We can’t wait to see what this year’s contestant pool brings!”

The panel of judges will consist of WBLI Drive Time Live co-host Syke along with Ducks outfielder/bench coach Lew Ford. Performances must be done a capella with a time limit of one minute and 30 seconds. Anthem lyrics must be sung from memory, and instrumentalists or other unique performers are encouraged to participate as well. No tapes will be accepted. The lucky winners will each be notified in the weeks following “Anthem Idol.”

After the event’s completion, the Ducks will also be hosting tryouts for on-field host and public address announcer positions during the 2016 season. Audition start time is approximately 11:30 a.m.

The Long Island Ducks are members of the Atlantic League of Professional Baseball and play their home games at Bethpage Ballpark. For further information, call (631) 940-DUCK or visit www.liducks.com.
