Jose begins his first season with the Ducks, third in the Atlantic League and 13th in professional baseball. The southpaw began the 2022 campaign with the Generales de Durango of the Mexican League. In 33 games, he went 2-2 with a 5.59 ERA and 18 strikeouts to six walks over 29 innings. He spent the 2021 season in the Atlantic League with the Gastonia Honey Hunters. In 16 appearances, the Dominican Republic native went 1-0 with a 2.61 ERA, five saves, 23 strikeouts and just three walks over 20.2 innings. He also played in the ALPB with the Somerset Patriots in 2018, posting a 4.91 ERA in eight games.

The 31-year-old began his career by spending six seasons (2010-15) in the Arizona Diamondbacks organization, reaching the High-A level. He then joined the Miami Marlins system and spent two seasons there (2015-16), reaching Double-A. In addition to his time in the Atlantic League, the left-hander has pitched in the Can-Am League with the New Jersey Jackals (2016-17) and Sussex County Miners (2019) as well as in the American Association with the Lincoln Saltdogs (2018) and Winnipeg Goldeyes (2020-21).
